What is the pen tool used for?
It is used to outline shapes or textures using lines, curves, anchor points, and handles.
How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator? Discuss the use of the white arrow tool, pen+, pen-, and convert tool.
The white arrow tool can drag a line into a different space. It can also change a curve of a line by clicking and dragging a handle. The pen+ tool adds an anchor point, and the pen- tool deletes an anchor point.
How can you utilize the layers palette in Illustrator?
You can put different elements of the design on different layers. This allows you to work on different parts and not have to worry about accidentally changing a line on another part of the design by accident. Additionally, when designing the textures it helped my eyes not get overwhelmed by not having to look at all of the design at once.
How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator?
You make a shape that has no border or inside and you make sure it is at the front of the design. You then select all the elements within the shape that you want to clip and go to object, then clipping mask then make.

Review Week 5
shape
This design is all shapes that work together to form art. This poster would be noting without shape because that is all that it is. Shape is used in this design to convey movement and it makes the design abstact. It does this by not having anything that resembles things that you would see in real life.
line
Line is everything in this picture. This lines come together to form an image that looks almost three dimensional. Lines form shapes and the shapes in this picture are mostly rectangular and triangular. This picture has movement and is interesting to look at. That makes me beleive this is a successful design, and it also conveys line. With out line this picture would be nothing.
texture
Texture is supposed to have layers and I think this design does. The wood looks weathered and the cat is and only an outline with animal print on it. These elements give the design texture that would not have been there with just shape and line. The trees in the background also give it a layered look that is so important in texture. Without texture you would still be able to see that idea of the design but it wouldn't look as good.
space
This design shows space most notably through the blankness behind the book. This does not mean that there is no space other places. Space is everywhere in designs, and a design would be nothing without it. There is no way to have no space and this design focuses on the object and leaves space.
value
Value in design is the contrast that helps define depth. In this design value is used to make it look like the boat is closer than the houses. Without value a design would be more flat and one or two dimensional. Value utilizes the naturally occurring shadows and uses them to create a unique look.
